At Goya, we are obsessed with storytelling. In fact, the word 'Goya' refers to the 'Could it be?' that arises as you listen to a riveting story. The only thing we love better than a good narrative, is a good narrative around food. The Goya Journal is a food and culture publication focussed on India & S Asia. Using mediums as diverse as photoessays, podcasts, videos, long-form narratives, recipes, even listicles, employing voices across disciplines, we aim to offer insight into culture, politics and identity.
Goya was founded in 2016 by Anisha Rachel Oommen, and former co-founder, Aysha Tanya, both of whom spent several years in food and media before starting Goya. Goya works with writers, photographers, farmers, chefs, home-cooks, artists, entrepreneurs and storytellers to document the socio-politics of food.
Anisha Rachel Oommen has a background in media & journalism. In her role as editorial director, she leads communication, storytelling, and brand partnerships, and also curates bespoke experiences for the Goya community.
Aysha Tanya was instrumental in building Goya’s foundations in the food media space. She retired from her role as partner at Goya Media in 2024. She is the author of The Family Table, a collection of heirloom recipes from the Mappila community, and continues to write here.
